Matt Gio

Composer, Producer, Academic

'Matt Gio' Giannotti is an award-winning composer, experienced conductor, and traveled musician.  His music has been performed in venues around Europe and the United States, including Buckingham Palace, Westminster Abbey, St. Martin-in-the-Fields, the Edinburgh Science Festival as well as in New York, Philadelphia, Romania, and Spain. Matt has also written for film, with music appearing in the Edinburgh Film Festival Short Film Competition and the New Hope film festival, where the film won Viewer’s Choice award. He has won the Emre Araci composition prize and has held the position of composer in residence with orchestras in New York and Philadelphia.

As an educator, Matt has taught music at the University of Edinburgh and New York University, and has been involved with music outreach projects with the Scottish Chamber Orchestra, the Shandelee Music Festival, and the Red Note ensemble (which won a Scottish New Music award for Education Project of the Year). He has held the position of President of the Edinburgh Composers Orchestra, Executive Director of Nodes New Music, and currently runs a New York based company, focused new music (composing, recording, or production).

Matt holds a Ph.D. from the University of Edinburgh and has studied composition with other renowned composers such as Peter Nelson, Gareth Williams, Justin Dello Joio, Dinu Ghezzo, Ron Mazurek, and Harold Oliver. He completed his Masters Degrees at NYU Steinhardt and his Bachelors Degree at Rowan University.
